EDIT: Original article here http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3163790

EDIT2: A second party has confirmed a Skies of Arcadia for the Wii.

http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.com/2007/11/for-those-who-dont-read-comments-vol-ii.html

4) A new Skies of Arcadia for the Wii seems to be a yes.

I don't know how much we can trust surfer girl, but she's indicated something the Q man from EGM didn't- it's coming to the Wii... So I think it's more believable now. All I can do now is pray that they make it worthy of a sequel to Skies of Arcadia.

I don't even know what to think of this right now. Part of me lusts for a next-gen sequel to SoA, but the other really just wants to keep closure on the game. If it was a next-gen remake, I'm all for it.

A remake would be a pretty good idea! In addition to updating the graphics, some of the odder gameplay aspects could be changed as well. I can't help but feel that the ship battle system could use some sprucing up.

But still, I'd like to see how Arcadia recovers from the second rain of moonstones.

Funny thing is that EGM is full of shit. God of War 3 and Gears of War 2 are a given due to the fact their hit predecessors ended on cliffhangers. But I'd love to see a Skies of Arcadia 2 as much as the next SoA fan.

I don't know about this, I have a feeling that a sequel would really suck.

Were there any sales figures on the original and gamecube port?

IF it would be true (I doubt it): let's say I'd invest in a new console ASAP.

Only reason the sales were poor was that it released on the Dreamcast soon before that console went under and released on the Gamecube with poor advertisement.

If they try to pull off a Ramirez Revival, then yeah it would suck.

While it is true that a sequel could be poorly made (And we know Sega has the full capacity for doing so) we should keep in mind that it will never effect how great the first game is. Currently I'm waiting to see if any of the team that made the first game are behind this, what platform(s) the game will be on, and what features might be included (I'm hoping for the ship selling and buying system that was to be in the first game). We have no idea if this will be a direct sequel, distant future, or even possibly prequel.

Except it doesn't exist, as far as we know, because the rumors don't seem to be based on anything at all, let alone anything remotely credible.

Assume it's fake until you have reason to believe that it's real.

Yeah, it's a rumor, but I'm betting we'll have confirmation by the end of the year. I just hope it gets off the ground this time.

I'm not sure about the original, but I remember reading that Legends sold around 75k units in the US, which is abysmal. Both the original and Legends sold well enough in Japan to get budget re-releases, but I don't know what the exact sales figures were like (they obviously weren't very high, though, since it wasn't enough to make a sequel viable).

I'm pretty sure this rumor, like all of the others, is false.

Does anyone know how reliable EGM's rumor mill is? In the end, though, a rumor is a rumor, and even if it does get off the ground, I also feel Sega will screw up a sequel pretty badly. Sega hasn't really made a great game worth recommending to people in a longass time. I almost feel like they're just gonna throw the project onto the people who do the recent Shining Force games.

It makes me wish they would watch the credits of Eternal Arcadia and track down everyone on the list.

If there is a sequel, I don't think it would suck because I believe it is still being made by Overworks, and I'm hoping that they would not allow themselves to release a sucky sequel.

Oh, and by the way I'm new. Hi everyone! I joined because last summer I played Skies of Arcadia for the first time on Dreamcast after buying it for $0.49 at Goodwill, and man, it's the best game ever!

Overworks has been merged into what is now known as SegaWOW (Overworks+Wow Entertainment)

The writer of Skies of Arcadia is currently working as a producer on the PS3 game Valkyrie of the Battlefield: Gallian Chronicles. The name of the writer escapes me at the moment, but anyway I assume SegaWoW if working on that right now. Could be wrong though.

The talent might have diluted, like what happened to Sonic Team, but I haven't thoroughly been keeping up on what the other Sega teams are up to.
