I wrote a simple program to generate all of the known enemy data. Someone was asking for data for a Bestiary so this is what I came up with.

There is still missing info, and of course there could be mistakes. If you happen to know some info that's not in the file, or see a mistake, please let me know.

Nice one.

I'm working on a tool to that can read data from SoA VMU saves. Since you already inspected SoA files' format I was wondering if you could help me.

So far I can extract all stats, but whenever I try to edit them the save get corrupted. I fixed VMS checksum, but I suppose there's another checksum somewhere around offset 0x16D8 and I don't know how to fix it.

Any idea?

I added all the boss data from disk 1 and elcians data to this file at the bottom. I would also like to point out that not only do galacian and ramirez have 10 million hp but they are also invincible, i know because i changed galacians hp to 10000 and fought him on the train in valua and his health bar never moved. Im thinking about adding enemy ship stats too, and im also going to test if recumen is really invincible or not because he only has 100,000hp while grendel, (who is kill-able) has 110,000hp.

Good work Chilly. I've already found the boss data, but I never got around to posting it (except for ship battles, I never did get around to finding those).
You managed to find the enemy dodge and quick stats though, which is great. The more data we have, the better.

speud: I'll have a look when I get time. I remember a long time ago trying to write SOA save editor, but like everything else I work on it was abandonded. I'll look through the info and see if there's anything useful for you.

Cool, thanks for your help. Smile

Here is the 1st version of the tool, works with .VMS files only, no editing for now. Please let me know of the missing stats you discovered. http://bswirl.kitsunet.org/soa/vmstats/index.php?lg=en&menu=on

Ah I didn't know of items and magics, thanks. Smile

Do you have a list of items for each value? Also is there a way to know which magics characters have learned from the values?

http://www.geocities.com/chilly01234/items.txt

Heres all the item values i know which is just about everything except for key items. As for magic, each character needs a different amount of magic points to learn certain spells, so you just have to guess based on the number unless there is a faq or something that lists the number of magexp is needed for each spell on each character.

Thanks for all. I updated the tool to add magics and items.

I also fixed the game time which is on 4 bytes and not on 2 bytes like I thought before, it worked for low time but I got strange results for more advanced saves. Game time is stored at offset 0x346C in case you want to know. Also save's creation date and time is stored at offset 0x3472 on 8 bytes.

Maybe I'll be able to add ship's stats as well with your items list, I know where the name is located and values around are probably items equiped.

Now if only someone could find a way to save all without corrupting the file that would be awesome. Smile I think I made an interesting discovery, when you give the same value to both cur and max mp the file isn't corrupt. Same happens with hp and sp. Since each one uses only 1 byte I guess it gives us a clue about how the checksum is calculated.

PS: Let me know if you want me to make a new topic about SoA saves, I don't want to be a hijacker.

Okay speud, I have some tools for you to try out.

http://www.geocities.com/adnova2001/soa/dci2vms.zip
http://www.geocities.com/adnova2001/soa/dci_vmi.zip
http://www.geocities.com/adnova2001/soa/vms_crc.zip
http://www.geocities.com/adnova2001/soa/VMUhack.txt

I'm not sure who made the tools, but the doc on how to use them was written by someone named Falcon. You may want to just skip to the part that details how to use the CRC program.

Here are the best quotes from the VMUhack.txt file:
Quote:
You cannot use this faq for your own personel use.

Quote:
This faq is a copyright of Falcon enterprises all uses of this faq is not permitted without my permission.

So make sure you find Falcon and ask for his permission before doing anything. Rolling Eyes

Well, thanks but that doesn't really help. Smile

I know the CRC checksum of VMS files and how to fix it, I also know how to modify casual saves (without having to use any of these tools actually Razz).

Fact is SoA has an extra checksum to make sure you didn't try to cheat, and after some tests I think it's located at offset 0x1968 or something. I don't know yet how it is calculated and that's the problem, since if it's not fixed the game will say the file is corrupted. Confused

Anyway, I appreciate your efforts, let me know if you find something about SoA's checksum.
