Well, it's been a long time coming (this song has been out for ages), but one of the true tests of a great song is staying power. Is this a song that, after months, still sounds good?
Is it hell!
The intro riff sums up what this song is all about: Its fast, its heavy (certainly compared to their older stuff) and Mark Chapman certainly seems to be letting out some pent-up frustration over the 2-year delay of the album.
"A" songs have never been very... riffy. But this offering is in your face, full on, turn-it-up, bordering on metal. "A" have cranked their dials up to 11, and its one hell of a shock.
The song itself is about failed love, but don't go thinking that this is some horrible emo rubbish. It's far removed from the likes of My Chemical Romance and Bullet For My Valentine. Theres an excess of energy in every part, from Jasons screaming vocals to Dan's enthusiatic bass playing, from Adam's drum killing technique to Mark Chapman's wah-toned solo.
The song finishes just how it started: loud and heavy.
It's testament to great song writing that keeps this song at the top of my playlist after so many months.
And for those that are curious: Yes, the song title AND opening line "On and on like a Rush song" ARE a nod towards Canadian prog-rockers Rush. "A" are huge fans of the band.

B-sides
Every single is released with some sort of B-side. Depending on what Cd you go for, you either get "Get Out More" and "Have The Night", or "French Kiss". The only good one in that pick is "Get Out More", as the other two are too soft, which this band cannot really pull off.
Get Out More is a powerfully emotional song. There's something about it that just pulls at something inside you. Mark is not a big one for solos, so you'd think Rush Song would fill his quota, but no. Here he belts out a longer solo, with even more wah, and more emotion than you can shake a stick at.
9/10
